Reports from the Mexican Red Cross indicate that at the corner of Obrero Mundial and Aragón streets, in the Álamos neighborhood, Benito Juárez borough, a 67-year-old man fell down the stairs during the quake. His wife called 911, but when Mexican Red Cross paramedics responded to the emergency, the man had no vital signs. The official report states that the victim suffered cardiac arrest and collapsed while trying to go down the stairs. This case appears to be the only fatality from the earthquake recorded this Friday, with its epicenter in Guerrero and felt in Mexico City and other central entities. Damage in Benito Juárez and Cuauhtémoc In the Benito Juárez borough, there were two reports of minor damage and an explosion without consequences in Cuauhtémoc. On Monrovia Street, almost at the corner with Zapata, in the Portales neighborhood, a tree fell on a parked car that was in disrepair, so no one was injured. Dozens of emergency units arrived at the disaster site in the Benito Juárez borough, and in less than an hour, the tree had been cut and removed without causing major damage. Electrical wiring was not affected, but the telephone network operating in the area was. At the corner of Enrique Rebsamen and Morena streets, in the Narvarte neighborhood, a traffic light pole fell, without causing major damage, so there were no injuries either. On Article 123 Street in the Historic Center, Cuauhtémoc borough, the seismic movement caused the explosion of a transformer in front of a building marked with number 90. No injuries were reported, and the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC), in coordination with the Heroic Fire Corps and medical services, went to the site to control the fire and guarantee the safety of people, so they quickly brought the situation under control.
