Yellow Alert Activated in Mexico City Due to Adverse Weather

The evening and night of this Monday will be marked by adverse weather conditions in Mexico City, after the Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection activated a Yellow Alert in all boroughs due to the forecast of heavy rains, strong gusts of wind, and possible hail. What does the Yellow Alert mean? The Yellow Alert is part of the early warning system implemented in the capital to warn the population about meteorological phenomena that could pose risks. This level indicates the presence of moderate to heavy rains, with possible impacts such as flooding, falling branches, or traffic complications. On this occasion, the alert was activated for all 16 boroughs of the city, which means the phenomenon will be widespread and not limited to specific areas. Rain, wind, and possible hail According to authorities, heavy rain accompanied by strong wind gusts is expected during the evening and night, which could increase the risk of falling objects, trees, or lightweight structures. Additionally, the presence of hail is not ruled out, a factor that can further complicate mobility, cause traffic accidents, or affect homes and vehicles. These types of conditions are common during the rainy season but can also occur atypically in spring, especially when interacting with unstable atmospheric systems. Recommendations for the population In light of this forecast, Civil Protection issued a series of recommendations to avoid risks: • Carry an umbrella or raincoat • Remove debris from drains to prevent flooding • Do not cross streets with running water • Avoid sheltering under trees, billboards, or posts • Drive with caution in case of possible flooding It is also suggested to stay away from walls or structures that could collapse due to wind or rain. Furthermore, capital authorities reminded the public that weather conditions can change rapidly, so it is important to stay informed through official channels and heed any updates issued throughout the day.
