Sectorial elements and the Animal Surveillance Brigade (BVA) of Mexico City safeguarded a coati that sought warmth inside a vehicle in the Agrícola Pantitlán neighborhood, Iztacalco municipality.
The police officers, assigned to security and surveillance on the streets of that neighborhood, were alerted by a citizen at the intersection of Popocatépetl Street and Calle 4. The citizen informed them that he had found an animal resembling a marsupial hiding inside his vehicle in the garage.
In response to this situation, the officers went to the indicated location and discovered the coati curled up in the unit. Carefully, they removed it, placed it in a cardboard box, and requested the intervention of wildlife specialists from the General Directorate of the BVA of the SSC.
A few minutes later, the wildlife management specialists confirmed that it was indeed a coati. As a precaution, they placed it in a container and transported it to their facilities in the Xochimilco municipality, where veterinary zootech doctors will verify its health status. Subsequently, it will be released in a suitable area of its habitat.
The Animal Surveillance Brigade, part of the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC), carries out rescue and safeguarding actions for wildlife and domestic animals in the capital that are in risky situations.
