In Mexico, a man identified as Jonathan Sotelo has been accused of scamming women he interacted with through the dating app Bumble. Similar to the case of Simon Leviev, which inspired a popular Netflix movie, Sotelo allegedly asked for loans and credits in the names of his victims and then disappeared, leaving them with debts and deceit.

One of the complainants, Fernanda, recounted on a news program how she discovered Sotelo's true identity after joining a Facebook group aimed at sharing experiences about him. She found out that it was not an isolated case, as other women had also fallen victim to his scams in different countries such as Spain, Colombia, and Mexico. According to Fernanda, at least 79 women have reported being deceived by this individual.

The accusations against Jonathan Sotelo date back to 2008, suggesting he has been operating for quite some time. The victims accuse him of fraud, identity theft, and gender violence. Despite the complaints filed, investigations are still ongoing.

Another woman, Fabiola, also shared her experience as a victim of this alleged scammer. She had a relationship with him between 2017 and 2019, during which she claims to have been manipulated into incurring debts in her name.

More affected women are urged to report Jonathan Sotelo to put an end to his fraudulent actions and ensure he is held accountable for the crimes committed.
