A combination of adverse weather factors will generate strong winds in the northeast of Mexico, increasing the risk of the formation of whirlwinds and tornadoes in northern Coahuila. On the other hand, tropical storm Sara is advancing over Belize, Guatemala, and Campeche, causing extremely heavy rains in the Yucatán Peninsula and the southeast of Mexico, accompanied by high-intensity winds and elevated wave activity in coastal areas.
Sara is expected to weaken as it moves over the state of Campeche, while a monsoon trough heading towards the southern and central Pacific of Mexico will cause rain in those regions. Additionally, cold to very cold conditions are forecasted in the Valley of Mexico in the coming days, particularly in the mornings, with temperatures possibly dropping to -5 °C in the mountainous areas of the State of Mexico.
In Toluca, State of Mexico, a minimum temperature range of 3 to 5 °C and maximum temperatures between 23 and 25 °C are expected. The first winter storm of the season has impacted Mexico, accompanied by cold front number 10 and tropical storm Sara, causing heavy rains, strong winds, possible snowfall, and the formation of tornadoes in various regions of the country.
According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN) of the National Water Commission (Conagua), both cold front number 10 and the winter storm will affect the northwest and north of Mexico, with moderate to intense rains in the mountains of Sonora, Chihuahua, Durango, and Sinaloa, with a high probability of snowfall or sleet. In Mexico City, a minimum temperature between 9 and 11 °C and a maximum of 26 to 28 °C are expected, with south winds and gusts of up to 40 km/h.
