The mayor of Cuauhtémoc, Alessandra Rojo de la Vega, presented new advancements in security after completing 100 days in office. In a press conference, she detailed that since taking office, measures have been implemented as part of the 'Cuauhtémoc builds peace' strategy. The installation of 20 security councils throughout the district was highlighted, with the goal of increasing citizen trust.
She announced that there will soon be a security council for each of the 33 neighborhoods in February. Additionally, she informed that the budget allocated to this area has increased by 64% compared to the previous year. However, Alessandra Rojo de la Vega revealed that this weekend she received death threats through social media. In a statement, she expressed: "Doing these things involves risks, but we will continue to take courageous actions."
The mayor mentioned that the threats could be related to the closure of illegal beer establishments in the Tepito area, where she suffered an attack during her electoral campaign last year. To address the situation, she held a meeting with the Head of Government, Clara Brugada, and the security cabinet. The security situation, threats, and citizen demands in the district were evaluated.
Rojo de la Vega reported that she filed a formal complaint with the Attorney General's Office regarding the threats received and urged that these acts be investigated. She emphasized the importance of addressing complaints seriously and highlighted that "fear is not an obstacle." In a public message, she revealed that she received intimidating messages that included the warning: "They are going to kill you, we know where you are." The mayor insisted on the importance of continuing to work towards security, justice, and the eradication of violence in the municipality.
