A supposed fentanyl trafficker linked to Aureliano Guzmán Loera, alias "El Guano", and allegedly protected by a former local PRI deputy in Sinaloa, was arrested by elements of the Secretariat of the Navy-Armada of Mexico (Semar) on the streets of the Benito Juárez mayoralty in Mexico City. The alleged trafficker was identified as Joel Medina Miyakazi, alias "La Morsa", who operated with the support and protection of his sister, María Eugenia Medina Miyazaki, a former PRI deputy in the Sinaloa Congress for District 19.
"La Morsa" was detained in a joint operation by Semar with personnel from the Secretariat of National Defense (Defensa), National Guard, Attorney General's Office of the Republic (FGR), and the Secretariat of Citizen Security and Protection of Mexico City, in the Narvarte Poniente neighborhood of the Benito Juárez mayoralty. Intelligence reports indicate that Joel Medina Miyakazi was a close collaborator of Aureliano Guzmán Loera, alias "El Guano", leader of a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel.
In addition, he is identified as a source of violence in the state of Sinaloa and responsible for clandestine laboratories for the production of fentanyl and synthetic drugs in Elota, Sinaloa, intended for sale and distribution in the United States. "La Morsa" had protection from former federal officials for the manufacture of fentanyl in clandestine laboratories in Sinaloa and also operated in Mazatlán and Mexico City.
Official information reveals that his sister provided him with protection and accommodation in different locations in Sinaloa and Mexico City. Therefore, Semar implemented surveillance operations until he was finally located at a residence in the Narvarte Poniente neighborhood, being arrested in alleged flagrante delicto in possession of a firearm, cartridges, synthetic drugs, and cocaine.
Joel Medina Miyazaki, 37 years old, was made available to a Federal Public Ministry for his legal situation to be defined.
