Police Investigation: Fuel Theft Scandal in Mexico City

On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, a video went viral on social media showing several members of the Citizen Security Secretariat of Mexico City siphoning gasoline from their patrol vehicle. It is presumed that this action was carried out to obtain more fuel than necessary and to refuel the private vehicle of 'Chief Guerrero'. Journalist Antonio Nieto was the one who shared this post, which was quickly disseminated due to the seriousness of the images that reveal the agents' irregularity.

In the recordings, four individuals are seen using a hose and a jerrycan to extract gasoline from the official SSC truck, identified with the license plate MX-338C1. Those responsible from the SSC will be called to testify, while the identification of the individuals involved in the video circulated on social media is being carried out. The SSC has stated that it will notify the Collegiate Body of Honor and Justice for immediate attention to the case, ensuring that any action outside of regulations will be rigorously investigated and sanctioned according to established procedures.

The personnel from the General Directorate of Internal Affairs of the SSC is already working on an internal administrative investigation in response to a complaint about the possible theft of fuel from official vehicles. If necessary, the corresponding judicial authorities will be informed. The SSC reiterates its firm stance against any act that goes against the institution's Code of Conduct and Ethics.

Antonio Nieto stated that the siphoned gasoline was intended for Chief Guerrero's patrol, evidencing in the videos how the uniformed officers emptied the tank of the official patrol to subsequently pour the fuel into a private vehicle, supposedly owned by the chief. The General Directorate of Internal Affairs of the SSC has initiated an internal administrative investigation following the complaint about the theft of fuel from official vehicles, indicating that the illicit acts would have been carried out at the facilities of the Metropolitan Police Unit Guerreros.
