The Secretary of Citizen Security has arrested three people involved in the events surrounding bullfighting, which have once again divided the Congress of CDMX. Amid this tension, Diana Sánchez Barrios, formerly an alternate deputy for her sister Silvia Sánchez Barrios, will assume her position as a full legislator this Saturday at the Donceles Palace.
In an effort to ease tensions, Diana participated in a recent meeting with the Secretary of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection, Myriam Urzúa. Despite this, her arrival in the officialdom has generated controversy in the opposition due to her past when she was detained under Claudia Sheinbaum's government for crimes related to her activity as a street vending leader.
Diana's entry into the officialdom promises to alter the power dynamics within the Cuauhtémoc mayoralty, one of the most important in the country. The party seeks to regain control of this mayoralty in the upcoming elections after two terms of opposing female mayors. Diana will join the Parliamentary Association Women for Feminist and Inclusive Trade, allied with Morena, which has 46 absolute majority seats.
During the week, Diana worked in the annexes of the Legislative Power in the Zócalo alongside the parliamentary groups of the 4T to fine-tune the details of the legislative agenda. On Saturday, at the start of the ordinary sessions of the Congress of CDMX, Diana will assume her position as a local deputy instead of her sister Silvia.
This previously scheduled change responds to power balances within one of the most influential families in the Cuauhtémoc mayoralty. Diana survived an attack in the Historic Center of Mexico City last October when she suffered an attempted transfeminicide. In the incident, a man died, and Diana was seriously injured, but thanks to several medical interventions, she managed to survive.
