Elimination of the Comipems Exam in Mexico

This year, the Metropolitan Commission of Public Institutions of Upper Secondary Education (Comipems) will not hold exams, confirmed President Claudia Sheinbaum last Friday, January 31, as part of the 100 commitments of her Government. The governor assured that access to education will be guaranteed for all students at this level and that they will work together with institutions such as UNAM, the Polytechnic, and the National Technological Institute of Mexico to improve the public high school system.

"This year there will be no Comipems exam, we will guarantee education for everyone," declared Sheinbaum. The measure aims to raise the quality of all high schools in the country and prevent young people from being considered rejected in the educational system.

The decision to eliminate the Comipems exam is part of the new Comprehensive Plan of the National Baccalaureate System of the New Mexican School, which aims to create 200,000 new places in high schools across the country, starting in 2025.

The new process for admission to high school was announced at the conference 'Baccalaureate for Everyone' presented this Monday by the federal government. The National Baccalaureate Call for All 2025 will be published on February 14, and registration on the platform will begin in March. Between May and June, the UNAM and IPN exam will take place.

In this context, it was announced that students from the College of Bachelors will have preference for admission to the Autonomous University of Mexico (UAM). UNAM and the Polytechnic will maintain their admission exam, which will be conducted online using artificial intelligence tools.

Additionally, it was announced that the National Baccalaureate System of the New Mexican School will be created and seven new high schools will be built. The Head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, expressed her support for the elimination of the Comipems exam and celebrated the new measures announced by the federal government.
