Arrests in the Cruz Azul Scandal

The corruption plot that has affected the Cruz Azul team continues to unfold, with the recent detention of Víctor Luna Reséndiz and Guillermo Morales Montoya, identified as key collaborators of Billy Álvarez in a fraudulent scheme harmful to the cooperatives.

The arrests of Luna Reséndiz and Morales Montoya were carried out simultaneously in Hidalgo and the State of Mexico, following an extensive investigation by federal and state authorities. Both were transferred to the Reclusorio Sur in Mexico City, where Álvarez is already detained.

The detainees are accused of participating in a complex fraud scheme that included diversion of resources, illegal sale of cement, and irregular control of the cement plant in Tula, Hidalgo, actions that harmed the cooperatives and jeopardized the viability of the cooperative.

With these arrests, authorities seek to completely dismantle the corruption network operating within Cruz Azul. Billy Álvarez, linked to a criminal process for crimes such as fraud and organized crime since January, is detained in Reclusorio Norte and is expected to meet with other former executives of Liga MX facing similar accusations.

The case has drawn attention to the management of resources in sports and commercial entities in Mexico. The downfall of Álvarez and his collaborators represents a significant advancement in the fight against corruption in Mexican sports. Cruz Azul fans hope that these arrests mark the beginning of a new era for the club, based on transparency and proper management.
