The Metropolitan Commission of Public Institutions of Upper Secondary Education (Comipems) has announced a new assignment process for admission to high schools in the Mexico City Metropolitan Area. This process requires students to register on a new platform and select up to 10 high school options, prioritizing proximity to their home or the institution of their interest.
The assignment process will begin with the publication of the call on February 14. Starting in March, students will be able to register on the platform, and in May and June, the exam will take place only for UNAM and IPN. These institutions will maintain the admission exam with a minimum average of 7.0 as a requirement.
One of the key features of this new process is that it guarantees a spot for all registered students who have a secondary school certificate. Additionally, it ensures an equitable assignment in high-demand schools through a lottery with a gender quota, reserving at least 50% of the spaces for women.
The system will eliminate the entrance exam for the majority of public high schools, except for UNAM and IPN. Instead, a digital platform will be implemented for the assignment of spots in high schools in the Mexico City Metropolitan Area, simplifying the process for students.
For those looking to enter the College of Bachelors, Conalep, DGETI, or other upper secondary institutions, the procedure will be simpler. Admission exams will be eliminated in the majority of public high schools, facilitating access to upper secondary education.
In the words of the Mayor of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, this modification in the assignment process seeks to expedite and simplify enrollment for students, guaranteeing more equitable access without the need to compete for a spot in public high schools in the area.
