The presence of Andrés Manuel López Obrador has acquired an iconic status for both his supporters and those who see him as a symbol of national politics in Mexico. Beyond his speeches and campaign proposals, the appreciation for the former president is uniquely manifested in the streets of Mexico City.

Recently, a religious representation of AMLO called San Amlito has emerged, causing a sensation in local commerce and becoming one of the most popular items at stalls near the Metropolitan Cathedral. This sculpture, which appears to be a creation of his followers, has sparked interest and curiosity among the population.

The figure of San Amlito is a caricature of the former president, inspired by an animated image that became popular during his term. Dressed in a white tunic, a red crossed band, and a tricolor band, the doll, barefoot and holding a staff, measures only 15 centimeters in height and is made of plaster, placed on a wooden base with the inscription "San AMLITO." This item sells for an accessible price of 200 pesos.

In addition to being a collectible item, San Amlito has become a kind of "miraculous saint" to whom the faithful can ask for favors, according to statements from local merchants. The sculpture comes with a prayer that reflects the fervor and devotion of López Obrador's supporters, with references to his political legacy and petitions to protect the people from corruption and thieves.

Some lines from the prayer dedicated to San Amlito are "San Amlito: Do not leave us so alone," "San Andrés: Re-elect yourself again," "San Manuel: Your people love you, do not separate from them," among other expressions of devotion and support for the former President. The creation of San Amlito reflects how AMLO's figure has transcended the political sphere to become a cultural phenomenon in Mexico.
