Massive March in Mexico City Against Health System Crisis

Traffic chaos is looming in the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico next Monday, February 17, due to two major scheduled mobilizations. On one side, the Union of Transporters, Merchants, and Entrepreneurs of the Mexican Republic, along with the Alliance of Autonomous Transporters of the Mexican Republic, will carry out a mega march to protest against what they consider injustices and abuses of authority. On the other side, workers from the National Union of Workers of the Ministry of Health (SNTSA) plan to block several roads in the State of Mexico to address the crisis facing the health system.

The transporters will start their march at 8 a.m. from various strategic points heading towards Mexico City, while health workers plan to block access to airports, ring roads, and various highways. Both groups seek to express their dissatisfaction and demand solutions from the authorities, each from their particular perspective of the issues they face.

In light of this situation, authorities recommend that the public anticipate their travels, use alternate routes, and stay informed through official channels. Severe disruptions to mobility are expected in Mexico City and the State of Mexico, so drivers are urged to take additional precautions.

Transporters report extortion and abuse by authorities, while health workers demand the supply of medications and medical supplies, as well as respect for their labor rights. Both groups seek to highlight their issues and pressure the relevant authorities to find short-term solutions.
