Reelection of the PRI President in CDMX

The re-elected president of the PRI in Mexico City, Israel Betanzos, managed to remain in office after receiving 438 votes from the party's Political Council during an event at the Plutarco Elias Calles auditorium. Alito Moreno, national leader of the PRI, strengthened his position in the capital by backing Betanzos, considered one of his trusted men.

Among the other candidates for the presidency of the PRI in CDMX, Claudia Ramos López and Adalberto Daniel Blas Bautista came in second with 32 votes, while Elena Garfias and Kenia Adriana Gomez Zeron received 11 votes, placing third. There were also five null votes in the election.

With his re-election, Betanzos will lead the party in the capital until 2029, allowing him to coordinate the PRI's electoral strategy for the upcoming midterm elections in 2027 and the 2030 elections. Tania Larios, a local deputy, was elected as the party's secretary general, strengthening the team led by Alito Moreno.

"We will continue to walk the streets, listen to the people, and build a strong alternative for the capital," Moreno stated regarding the ongoing work they will do to solidify the PRI in Mexico City. The unionization of workers and support for Betanzos raised concerns in some sectors of Morena, a party that will closely monitor the evolution of this reconfiguration of the PRI in the capital of the country.
