Massive Teachers' Strike Planned in Mexico City

This Thursday, February 27, a march will be held in the downtown area of Mexico City by the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) and the Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE). The SNTE has scheduled a 48-hour strike for February 27 and 28, with possible blockades at various points in the city, which could affect traffic.

The demonstration is in rejection of the 2025 ISSSTE Law initiative and the repeal of the 2007 ISSSTE Law, as well as against the construction of a new system for teachers and the repeal of educational reforms from 2013 and 2019. In addition, there is a demand for the delivery of uniforms and school supplies.

The SNTE urges its members to stay alert to prevent possible labor reforms that affect their rights. Mobilizations are expected to begin early in the day, with takeovers of toll booths and government agencies in Oaxaca, and gatherings at the Congress of the Union in the Venustiano Carranza municipality.

In Mexico City, the march will affect roads such as Eduardo Molina, Congress of the Union, and Calzada Ignacio Zaragoza. In Oaxaca, the main toll booths and federal agencies will be affected. In the vicinity of the Chamber of Deputies, SNTE members are already arriving to begin the strike. There is a possibility that the demonstration will extend to the Congress of the Union with the arrival of more union sections.
