The Head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, assured that no measures will be taken that harm teachers, emphasizing that efforts will be made to continue benefiting them. Sheinbaum mentioned that the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, will hold a meeting with teachers to address existing differences.
Regarding the reform of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), Sheinbaum clarified that it will not affect teachers, but is aimed at trusted workers with high salaries. The goal is to ensure a more equitable system, where those who earn high incomes contribute a portion of their salary to improve ISSSTE health services.
During a morning conference, President Claudia Sheinbaum sent a message to the teachers protesting in Mexico City, stating that the mobilizations are unnecessary and advocating for a sense of justice in salary contributions.
The reason for the teachers' demonstration on February 27 was a march and 48-hour work stoppage called by the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) and the Coordinating Committee of Education Workers (CNTE). The rejection of the 2025 ISSSTE Law initiative, the repeal of the 2007 ISSSTE Law, opposition to forums aimed at establishing a new system for teachers, and the demand for the provision of uniforms and school supplies are some of the reasons behind the protest.
The SNTE has urged compliance with their call to protest to protect the rights of education workers, preventing any attempts to impose labor reforms that may affect them.
