The Attorney General's Office of the Republic (FGR) of Mexico has announced the extradition of 29 drug traffickers to the United States. Among those extradited are notorious drug lords such as Rafael Caro Quintero, Miguel Ángel, and Omar Treviño Morales. This transfer has been categorized as an unprecedented event in the relationship between Mexico and the United States.
José Ángel Canobbio Inzunza, alias 'El Güerito,' leader of the armed group Los Chimales, and Norberto Valencia González, alias 'Socialitos,' financial operator for the Beltrán Leyva Cartel, are also on the extradition list. These individuals were imprisoned in various correctional facilities in Mexico and were formally handed over to U.S. authorities in cities like Chicago, Houston, McKinney (Texas), New York, Phoenix, San Antonio, Washington, and White Plains (New York).
The Mexican government has carried out this operation as part of international cooperation agreements. It is noteworthy that this extradition occurs amid negotiations to avoid the imposition of a 25% tariff on Mexican products by U.S. President Donald Trump. Trump has expressed his dissatisfaction with Mexico's progress in the fight against drugs, despite improvements in border crossings.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has urged calm and expressed her confidence that both governments will reach an agreement to avoid tariffs. In this context, it is emphasized that thanks to the deployment of military personnel at the border agreed with the United States, Mexico has achieved significant arrests and drug seizures.
