The Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City has identified the route that the march called for this Friday, March 7, 2025, could take, which includes emblematic places such as Avenida Paseo de la Reforma, Avenida Juárez, Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas, Avenida 5 de Mayo, and Plaza de la Constitución.
Members of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) have begun to arrive around Paseo de la Reforma by buses from at least 8 states in the country. It is speculated that they may set up a camp in the capital's Zócalo or other points in Mexico City until they are heard by the government.
The CNTE teachers are protesting against the reform to the Law of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) 2025. The protest includes a 48-hour strike that will take place from March 6 to 7, with gatherings starting at 9:00 AM at the Angel of Independence and culminating in a rally at the city's Zócalo.
During the morning conference on Friday, President Claudia Sheinbaum mentioned that the reform to ISSSTE does not affect teachers but rather trusted workers. Despite this statement, the teachers are demanding the total elimination of the Law, among other demands such as the calculation of their pensions in pesos, the reinstatement of dismissed teachers, retirement at 28 and 30 years of service, and a salary increase.
In addition to the mobilizations in Mexico City, protests are expected in other locations such as Cancún, Michoacán, and Veracruz. For the past two weeks, various protest actions have taken place, including strikes, information days, and road closures. A new teachers' strike is expected on March 19, 20, and 21, according to reporter Marco Silva in a television program.
