Claudia Sheinbaum Highlights US-Mexico Trade Dialogue

The president of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced at an informational assembly in the Zócalo of the capital that after negotiations with the government of Donald Trump, it was possible to lift the tariffs that were being applied to products exported to the United States. According to Sheinbaum, dialogue and respect prevailed in these conversations.

The call to this assembly was made in response to the temporary imposition of 25% tariffs on Mexican exports by the United States on March 4. During the event, the president would announce the tariff and non-tariff measures designed by her administration in response to this situation.

However, due to the postponement of the implementation of some tariffs by Trump until April 2, Sunday's event will transform into a festival to celebrate this agreement. Claudia Sheinbaum stated that it would no longer be necessary to inform about the measures that Mexico would apply against the U.S. tariffs, as the event will be to celebrate this achievement with the Mexican people.

Sheinbaum Pardo had previously mentioned that she did not consider the imposition of tariffs necessary and highlighted the Zócalo as the ideal place to inform and make decisions together with the citizenry.
