Sheinbaum Responds to UN Criticism on Security

President Claudia Sheinbaum announced at her morning conference this Tuesday that she will send a diplomatic letter in response to the criticisms received during the UN Narcotics Commission at the event last Sunday in the Zócalo of Mexico City. The criticisms were led by Cart Weiland, the United States representative to the UN, who expressed from Vienna, Austria, that the president's call was an act "too soon to celebrate when women and children continue to be shot in places like Guanajuato," the state in the country with the highest homicide rate according to official figures.

In her response, Sheinbaum emphasized that "the truth should not be commenting on a UN event about an event in Mexico, that is the first thing." She also reminded that since Donald Trump's presidency, her government has led collaborative efforts that have yielded positive results in security, drug trafficking, and illegal immigration, which demonstrates effective coordination that may not be fully known to Weiland.

On the other hand, Weiland also demanded that the Mexican government take measures for the detention of a Canadian citizen named Ryan Wedding, supposedly connected to drug trafficking and on the FBI's 10 most wanted list. Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, announced from Palacio Nacional that an investigation is already underway regarding this case.
