
The head of government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada Molina, signed a collaboration agreement with the rector of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Leonardo Lomelí Vanegas. The goal is to work on joint research and the formation of interdisciplinary teams to address the major challenges of the city.
In his speech, Lomelí Vanegas affirmed the university's commitment to strengthen and preserve the historical and cultural heritage of the capital, as well as to promote education, social welfare, security, and water sustainability. He also highlighted the importance of participating in projects and initiatives proposed by the Head of Government.
Working groups will be established to sign specific agreements on issues such as air quality, mobility, preservation of the historical memory of indigenous peoples, and the celebrations of the 700th anniversary of the founding of Mexico-Tenochtitlan, among other aspects.
The UNAM General Counsel, Hugo Concha Cantú, mentioned that this agreement symbolizes the willingness of both institutions to collaborate and will serve as the basis for creating specific work agreements in education, research, innovation, and cultural dissemination.
A technical commission will be formed, coordinated by authorities from both entities, to coordinate efforts in educational, scientific, and technical matters. The signing of the agreement included a university Goya from the attendees at the event.
Clara Brugada Molina emphasized the importance of science, knowledge, and collaboration to face the challenges of the city. She highlighted her government's interest in delving into issues that consolidate a city of well-being, with transparent government and no corruption, safe, educational, with sustainable mobility, prepared for climate change, among other aspects.
The Head of Government recalled the history of collaboration between UNAM and the city governments, reaffirming the commitment to continue working together for the benefit of the capital. This agreement is established with an eye to the present and the future, seeking to improve the quality of life for the inhabitants of Mexico City.
