The coordinator of the Green Party Caucus in the Congress of Mexico City, Jesús Sesma, expressed his recognition and gratitude for the decision of the head of Government, Clara Brugada, to modify a preferred citizen initiative regarding bullfighting in the capital. The modification consists of the fact that bullfights will continue, but without causing death or injury to the animals involved.
Sesma highlighted that, although the original initiative proposed a ban on bullfighting, avoiding the suffering and sacrifice of bulls represents a significant advance for animal protection. In this sense, he emphasized the importance of fulfilling the constitutional mandate to treat animals as sentient beings with dignity and respect.
The leader of the Green Party praised Brugada's decision and that of President Claudia Sheinbaum as a consistent and brave act in recognizing the mistreatment and inherent cruelty of bullfighting. He also announced the support of deputies from Morena, PT, and the Green Party in favor of bloodless bullfighting in Mexico City.
Jesús Sesma also expressed gratitude to those who have advocated for the end of animal mistreatment in bullfighting for more than two decades, calling this achievement a victory for the citizens who largely oppose these spectacles. He assured that the Green Party will continue its fight for animal welfare and the abolition of bullfighting throughout the country.
