At the end of January, Maribel Guardia announced that she had filed a lawsuit against her ex-daughter-in-law, Imelda Tuñón, for alleged domestic violence and substance abuse, claiming that this put at risk their son, José Julián, the result of her marriage to the late Julián Figueroa. The authorities from the Attorney General's Office of Mexico City decided to place the minor under the care of his paternal grandmother while investigations were carried out.
During this time, Imelda consistently denied Maribel's accusations, who presented recordings and photographs as evidence, showing Tuñón picking up suspicious packages at her doorstep. The controversy led to public statements from both parties, keeping media attention.
On March 1, Imelda posted on her social media a photo holding hands with her son, suggesting that she had obtained custody. Although Imelda denied receiving threats, she claimed that Maribel Guardia was indeed being subjected to them. Subsequently, a restraining order was issued against Guardia to keep her away from the minor, although shortly thereafter, the detention of two alleged drug traffickers linked to Tuñón occurred, raising public concern about the safety of José Julián.
Nagibe Abbud, a former member of Imelda's K-pop group, presented evidence suggesting that Tuñón's behavior could endanger her son's life. The situation intensified recently when Abbud reported that the evidence had been sent to the relevant authorities.
In another development, Abbud's lawyer was contacted by telephone on the YouTube channel 'Que buen chisme,' where he provided details about the current status of the legal process surrounding this complicated family case.
