Protest Disrupts Traffic in Mexico City

In Mexico City, the return home has become complicated for motorists due to protesters blocking the central and lateral lanes of Periférico Sur, specifically in the section located at the intersection with Avenida Luis Cabrera. The protesters, coming from the Iztapalapa borough, have expressed their demand to local authorities to respect their right to adequate housing.

The authorities of Mexico City are negotiating with the protesters in order to restore traffic on Periférico Sur. During the road closure, the Traffic Orientation Center of the Secretariat of Citizen Security recommends that drivers opt for alternative routes such as Boulevard de la Luz and Avenida Paseo del Pedregal until the main road is reopened.

The protest began around 3:00 PM and extended throughout the afternoon. Around 5:18 PM, traffic was partially cleared on the Southern Peripheral Ring, both in the central and lateral lanes in the area of Av. Luis Cabrera.

During the course of the demonstration, participants displayed banners with slogans such as: "Housing is not a commodity, it is a human right and rights are not negotiable." The presence of the protesters has caused traffic problems in the area, affecting motorists traveling on the important road of Periférico Sur in the Mexican capital.
