Guillermo Calderón Resigns as Metro Director Amid Speculation

Rumors about the resignation of the General Director of the Collective Transportation System (STC) Metro, Guillermo Calderón, gained traction after the alleged leak of his resignation letter. Although the authorities of Mexico City have not issued an official statement on the matter, according to the leaked letter, Calderón would leave his position irrevocably starting Monday, May 5.

Amidst these speculations, César Cravioto, Secretary of Government of Mexico City, expressed his respect for possible decisions made by Clara Brugada, head of the Government of CDMX, regarding the Metro's direction. Cravioto called for avoiding speculation and assured that he would respect the decisions made by the government.

In an interview for the 24 Horas portal, Brenda Ruiz, deputy coordinator of Morena in the Congress of CDMX, commented on Guillermo Calderón's possible resignation and the potential appointment of Adrián Rubalcava as the new Metro director. Ruiz highlighted Rubalcava's ability as an “extraordinary” official and stated that he could play a significant role in that position.

During Guillermo Calderón's management, various modernization works were carried out on the Metro, such as the comprehensive renovation of Line 1 and the supervision of re-leveling work on Line 9 and reconstruction on Line 12. Calderón's resignation occurs at a time of crisis in the safety of public transportation in CDMX, marked by cases of 'stabbings' in the Metro, Metrobús, and Pumabús of Ciudad Universitaria.
