It reiterated that this situation adds to the ongoing criminal proceedings he faces in Mexico and the arrest warrants already issued against him. The Attorney General's Office of the Republic (FGR) notified it that, according to information from the National Central Bureau of Interpol Mexico and its counterpart in Portugal, Levy was arrested on Tuesday, October 28, for the purpose of extradition. "On Wednesday, October 29, he appeared before the competent judicial authority and chose to face the formal extradition process, subject to precautionary measures of residence and identity control (Termo de Identidade e Residência), while his nationality status is verified and his surrender to Mexican authorities is resolved," explained the CDMX Prosecutor's Office. Likewise, the Security Cabinet indicated that on Tuesday, October 28, the Government of Mexico was notified by the authorities of Portugal about the arrest of Simón Levy, derived from a Red Notice by Interpol, due to the existence of two active arrest warrants against him, related to criminal proceedings for environmental crimes and liability for works, as well as for threats and damage to third-party property. The Court of Appeals of Lisbon ordered his release under precautionary measures, including residence and identity control, while his nationality status is verified and his surrender to Mexican authorities is resolved. "The Government of Mexico maintains communication with the authorities of Portugal to follow up on the case, in accordance with international legal cooperation and extradition mechanisms". What is Simón Levy accused of? It added that, as previously reported, Simón Levy faces two ongoing criminal proceedings, derived from his repeated failure to appear at judicial hearings. In the first, crimes against the environment and liability of responsible directors for work are investigated due to irregularities in the construction of a building. The judicial authority issued an arrest warrant after the defendant's two absences from the hearings in August 2022 and August 2025, rendering a previously amparo null and void. In the second process, for threats and intentional damage to third-party property, another arrest warrant was issued after he failed to attend five hearings between December 2021 and October 2022.
