Mexico City's opposition is gearing up for elections. Senator Alejandra Barrales is challenging Salomón Chertorivski for control of the orange party, aiming to capitalize on current political tensions.

Power Struggle Intensifies in Mexico City's Orange Party

In the country's capital, they are studying what happened in Veracruz, where in the municipal elections the orange party grew thanks to the PAN and the PRI, and due to the internal ruptures of the 4T, which competed with Morena and the Green Party on one side, and the PT on the other.

In this way, internal disputes within MC are growing over control and the definition of candidacies that could be contested between its two most important figures: Senator Alejandra Barrales and the former candidate for Head of Government, Salomón Chertorivski.

This is explained by the national power that the senator would have due to her relationships with other sectors of the party in different states and regions of the country.

During the last period, decisions have been made more by the legislator's deputy, but this could change in the face of the former union leader's ambitions to rebuild power in the national capital, as happened in 2018.

Rojo de la Vega crossed paths with Arturo Ávila: "He is an inconsistent and manipulative person."

To this end, according to party sources, the senator seeks the intervention and approval of the national president of the party, Jorge Máynez, to diminish Chertorivski's power in Mexico City. In this way, Barrales would seek to reclaim her political project in the national capital, but she would initiate an internal dispute within her own party.

The first, a certain deficit in the management of Head of Government Clara Brugada and various officialist mayoralties; the second, an electoral offer from the PRI and the PAN that would not overly excite the citizenry and that, moreover, is experiencing moments of tension.

As a result, in Movimiento Ciudadano they believe there could be an opportunity to increase the three seats they already have in the Palace of Donceles and begin to position themselves in some districts towards 2030.

The opposition in Mexico City is beginning to arm itself for the 2027 and 2030 elections. In this way, internal disputes are growing to define who will command the organization in the upcoming elections.

With almost two years to go until the 2027 elections, the prevailing analysis among the leadership of the orange party is that in the upcoming elections, Movimiento Ciudadano could grow due to two factors.

In the case of Movimiento Ciudadano, for example, Senator Alejandra Barrales is seeking to fight for power and control of the orange force from Salomón Chertorivski, the party's last candidate for Head of Government, who achieved 7.3% of the vote.
