Mexico City's Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) has detained a 24-year-old man allegedly involved in a jewelry store robbery at a commercial mall in Álvaro Obregón. The operation was launched after a report of an ongoing crime was received by the West Command and Control Center (C2). At the scene, a 24-year-old man was apprehended; officers secured a bag containing display cases, a pair of earrings, three watches, two caps, three jackets, and a short-barreled firearm. During the detention, a 45-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman attempted to obstruct the police action and were also taken into custody. According to authorities, the primary suspect may also be linked to three additional commercial robberies in the Coyoacán, Miguel Hidalgo, and Benito Juárez boroughs. Official information states that the suspect “has an entry into the Mexico City Penitentiary System in 2020 for Crimes against Health in its purchase and sale modality,” in addition to having two investigation folders for the same crime in 2018. The three detainees were made available to the corresponding Public Ministry agent, who will determine their legal status, while investigations continue to locate the other individuals involved.
