President Claudia Sheinbaum has taken a stance following the violent events that occurred on Saturday in Mexico City. She reiterated that her government will not fall into provocations and recalled that she has always defended peaceful protest. "Violence does not strengthen any cause," she stated. "Whoever promotes violence is not helping the country," she sentenced. She also condemned the attacks that left over a hundred police officers injured and denounced that the mobilization was driven by opposition groups seeking to provoke the security forces in order to later accuse them of repression. The authorities faced violence in several municipalities of Michoacán. One of the most worrying issues is that many communities are armed, either through a supposedly legal route of self-defense or as criminal groups induce, which turns many areas into a real powder keg. Narco-blockades are usually a weapon used by criminals to prevent their enemies from leaving or to stop authorities from arriving. Yesterday's events in Michoacán, including vehicle burnings, seem like a direct challenge to Omar García Harfuch, who was in the troubled state just last week. The President also mentioned that the Chamber of Deputies is expected to conclude the review of her first report this week. "Mandela and Martin Luther King are our references," she underlined.
