Xóchitl Bravo, coordinator of the Morena faction in the Congress of Mexico City, announced on Sunday the creation of a Special Follow-up Commission to investigate the acts of violence that occurred on November 15th on the capital's Zócalo square during the so-called 'Generation Z' march.
During a press conference, the legislator informed that the Congress Plenary approved, under the criterion of 'urgent and obvious resolution,' an Agreement Point based on article 85 of the Organic Law of the local Congress. This legislative mechanism aims to clarify the participation of alleged shock groups and determine administrative and political responsibilities.
Additionally, Deputy Bravo rejected that the actions of elements of the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) constituted acts of repression. According to the legislator, the operation was limited to containment tasks in the face of direct aggressions.
'We reject any act of violence that hurts the people of this city,' declared Bravo, who also denounced that several police officers, including women, were seriously injured after being attacked with blocks of pavement and manhole covers thrown by protesters.
'We are not going to this commission to seek political vengeance; he who owes nothing fears nothing,' concluded the deputy.
The congresswoman described the opposition's position as 'hypocritical,' pointing out a contradiction between the demands for a hard line expressed after the October 2nd march and the current complaints of repression.
The approved agreement includes an exhortation to the General Control Secretariat of Mexico City to investigate possible acts of coercion. The Morena faction maintains that there are complaints from public officials and merchants in the Cuauhtémoc and Miguel Hidalgo delegations, who were allegedly forced to attend the demonstration under pressure from local authorities.
Consequently, the fifth and sixth clauses of the agreement exhort the heads of these demarcations, Alessandra Rojo de la Vega and Mauricio Tabe, to request a temporary leave from their positions. The objective of this request, argued Bravo, is to allow the competent authorities to conduct investigations without interference.
Xóchitl Bravo confirmed that the agreement has already been referred to the Political Coordination Board (JUCOPO).
