Mexico's Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, denied on Sunday that there are any indications that the Miss Universe pageant is funded by organized crime. "We have no indication that there is money from organized crime in the Miss Universe pageant, we don't have it, nor do we have anything related to the pageant itself, as such, in the corresponding investigations," stated García Harfuch at a press conference in the Mexican capital. García Harfuch's statements come after last week the existence of a presumed criminal network was revealed, in which the owner of the Miss Universe brand, Raúl Rocha Cantú, is allegedly involved. Questioned about this investigation, the official specified that the investigation resulted in 13 arrest warrants, including one for Rocha Cantú, "in full coordination" with the Attorney General's Office (FGR). "It was a joint investigation between the Attorney General's Office itself, the Secretariat of Security, and the institutions that make up the Security Cabinet."
