INE Commission Rejects PAN's Request to Block Sheinbaum's Rally

The Complaints and Denials Commission of the National Electoral Institute (INE) rejected the National Action Party's (PAN) request to prevent the rally called by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo this Saturday, December 6th, at the Zócalo in the capital, on the occasion of the seventh anniversary of the so-called 'Fourth Transformation.' In its complaint, PAN members argued that the event, called 'Sheinbaum Fest 2025,' would imply personalized promotion of the head of state, improper use of public resources, and a violation of the principles of legality, impartiality, and neutrality established in electoral regulations. However, the electoral body ruled that there is 'no imminent harm to a current or future electoral process,' so it considered it unnecessary to issue precautionary measures to suspend the rally or limit its dissemination. The commission declared the PAN request inadmissible and determined that the event can proceed as planned. Likewise, the INE stated that if PAN considers that improper use of public resources could occur during the organization or execution of the event, it must file a specific complaint for analysis by the Superior Chamber of the Federal Electoral Tribunal (TEPJF). The electoral authority recalled that it is up to this jurisdictional body to determine if there are sufficient elements to initiate a formal procedure regarding the handling of resources in public acts of the Presidency of the Republic. Finally, the commission also dismissed another PAN request, which sought to have the INE publicly urge Sheinbaum to refrain from using public resources in actions that could influence public sentiment, as it considered that such a call lacks legal basis.
