Mexico City continues its firm stance against extortion. Secretary of Security Pablo Vázquez Camacho confirmed that a special operation in the Colonia Cuauhtémoc area resulted in the arrest of six individuals. The operation, led by the CDMX Police Subsecretary for Intelligence and Investigation, targeted a gang that had been demanding illegal payments from a courier company to operate in the zone. During the raid, one suspect opened fire on police, injuring an officer who was quickly taken to a hospital. The mayor, Alessandra Rojo de la Vega, ordered the deployment of a special operation by Auxiliary Police and Civil Protection on Río Ebro Street. This operation aims to forge a pact among citizens, business sectors, merchants, social organizations, schools, and churches to coordinate actions that help prevent and address this crime. Head of Government Clara Brugada recognized and thanked the participating agents, stating: "Your work, commitment, and courage are fundamental for protecting the capital's residents." She added, "In Mexico City, extortion has no place: it is fought with determination, intelligence, and coordination!" This action is part of a security strategy pillar led locally by Pablo Vázquez Camacho and federally by Omar García Harfuch. This week, Head of Government Clara Brugada launched a new plan against this crime called "Let's build a city free of extortion."
