Federal deputy and leader of the Citizen Movement, Laura Ballesteros, announced her candidacy for the upcoming elections in Mexico City. On Wednesday, she declared her intention to run for office. Ballesteros is one of the main figures of the Citizen Movement who is positioning herself to compete in the 2027 elections. She has been an active voice against the national government of Morena and its local administrations in the capital, seeking to gain greater prominence. In recent years, Ballesteros has worked in coordination with other key leaders of the Citizen Movement. She stated, "I want to be on the ballot, I want to represent the people through direct vote and continue to work for my movement." Ballesteros has also been one of the most active political figures in defending a series of trees that the Benito Juárez city council, governed by PAN's Luis Mendoza, sought to cut down. As the midterm elections approach, she is raising her hand to seek to gain more power and structure within her political party and in the country's most important city. Furthermore, from San Lázaro, she maintains an active voice against the Morena national government and its local administrations in CDMX, where she seeks to gain greater protagonism. In this way, Ballesteros is one of the main figures of the Citizen Movement who is emerging to compete in the 2027 elections. The Citizen Movement also believes there is citizen fatigue with traditional opposition parties, so 2027 could represent a new opportunity for the orange force.
