Mexico City authorities have launched an investigation to identify those responsible. In a press release, the Mexico City Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) reported that capital police became aware of a deceased person following an armed attack. According to the official report, the attack occurred when the victim was driving on John F. Kennedy Street and an attacker traveling on a motorcycle fired directly at the driver. “According to initial reports, a subject traveling on a motorcycle fired directly while circulating on John F. Kennedy Street. After losing control, the vehicle advanced, invading the central lanes of the Periférico, where it impacted the containment wall, causing damage to another vehicle,” the SSC stated. Following the attack, the area was cordoned off by security elements, and the Public Prosecutor's Office was notified to begin the corresponding procedures. However, to date, the authorities have not officially confirmed the identity of the deceased person. The general secretary of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), Jorge Gavino, published a message on his X account in which he lamented the death of the former union leader, without specifying the circumstances of the death or whether it is the victim of the attack recorded in Tlalpan. “I deeply regret the death of my friend Luis Miguel Victoria Ranfla, a committed and respected union leader for his work in favor of ISSSTE workers.” The SSC indicated that it is already analyzing the surveillance camera footage to identify the probable responsible party. According to preliminary reports, the victim was driving a black Audi vehicle. After being shot, the driver lost control of the car, invaded the central lanes of the Periférico, and impacted the containment wall, which also caused damage to another vehicle. According to the newspaper Reforma, the victim's family went to the scene to identify the body. Versions disseminated by the media indicate that the victim could be Luis Miguel Victoria Ranfla, 65, who was the president of the National Executive Committee of the National Union of Workers of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) and a union leader for over a decade. A man was shot dead Wednesday night while driving a vehicle through the streets of the Isidro Fabela neighborhood, in the Tlalpan mayor's office, in southern Mexico City. “My solidarity and condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues in this difficult moment. Rest in peace”.
