Four Colombians implicated in the theft of 739 silver pieces from a person from Guerrero, valued at 400 thousand pesos, were detained by police from the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) of Mexico City. In a press release, the SSC recounted that officers were conducting a patrol on a street in the Niños Héroes de Chapultepec neighborhood, in the Benito Juárez mayor's office, when a citizen asked for their help. He told them he was from Guerrero to deliver the silver pieces to a jewelry store located in the Historic Center of the capital, however, four individuals intercepted him and robbed him of the merchandise. The complainant stated that the men threatened him with a knife and snatched a suitcase with the pieces, after which they fled in a vehicle. Following this, he took a taxi and followed them to the location, where he requested the officers' assistance and pointed out the people who were meters ahead. The SSC indicated that the police caught up with the alleged perpetrators, stopped them, and carried out a preventive search, in which they found two cell phones, cash, a knife, and a suitcase with the 739 silver jewelry pieces with an approximate value of 400,000 pesos, which the victim recognized as his property. Subsequently, the officers arrested the men, aged 52, 48, 43, and 24, who claimed to be Colombian citizens. They were informed of their rights, and along with the secured pieces, they were placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry agent, who will determine their legal situation and conduct the case's investigations. The SSC specified that the 43-year-old detainee has an entry into the Mexico City Penitentiary System for qualified theft in 2021, as well as four appearances before the Public Ministry for various crimes.
