Head of Government Clara Brugada stated: 'These are not just new public spaces, it's a break from the traditional way of thinking about the city.' In this sense, she emphasized that this urban model places the daily life of people, community time, and territorial justice at its center. 'Today we open the door to a city that begins to pay off historical debts, where access to well-being no longer depends on where one lives,' she added. Comprehensive infrastructure for the community The first phase of Utopía Mixiuhca covers 80,000 square meters of intervened space within a total site of 120,000 square meters and will directly benefit more than 83,000 inhabitants. The space features: An auditorium for over 400 people An open-air forum and cultural halls A free semi-Olympic swimming pool A child development center and public care system Medical offices, a clinical laboratory, and physical rehabilitation Spaces for psychological attention and addiction prevention Areas for women and sexual diversity A dog park, an employment agency, and community workshops Additionally, it incorporates recreational areas for children with water games, exploration circuits, and inclusive spaces, as well as sports infrastructure with courts, a go-kart track, and mini-golf. City of care and social transformation One of the project's central axes is the public care system, which seeks to reduce the historical burden—especially on women—in domestic and childcare tasks. 'Here, care ceases to be invisible and becomes public policy,' said Clara Brugada. She also announced that the child development center will be free and will be part of a new model of early childhood education in the city, focused on the first years of life. Sustainability and dignified public space The complex incorporates over 48,000 square meters of green areas, use of recycled materials, water capture and treatment, as well as solar energy systems. Likewise, it features 15 murals that strengthen community identity and a sense of belonging. A network of 100 utopias The mayor recalled that there are currently 15 utopias in the capital—mainly in Iztapalapa—and that this new space is the first outside that demarcation. 'This is utopia number 16 and the first outside Iztapalapa. This utopia is a laboratory of the future, a school of citizenship,' she affirmed. With this project, the capital's government seeks to consolidate a network of spaces that promote community, rights, and well-being, in a bet on redefining urban development from a social perspective. With a call to build a more equitable, inclusive, and well-being-centered city, Head of Government Clara Brugada inaugurated Utopía Mixiuhca, the first of 100 spaces her administration plans to develop in the capital as part of a social urbanism policy. Located in Magdalena Mixiuhca, this complex represents 'the birth of a new way of rethinking and making the city,' by taking up the meaning of Mixiuhca as 'place of birth.' 'Today we are inaugurating the first of 100 utopias we will build in the capital. We are going for 100 throughout Mexico City,' said Clara Brugada. She announced that the next inauguration will be in Azcapotzalco. 'A laboratory of the future' Finally, Brugada invited the citizenry to take ownership of the space and enjoy its services: 'We want that when you enter this place, you begin to transform your thoughts. Today a new stage begins where everyone can enjoy infrastructure designed to guarantee the full exercise of rights.' Clara Brugada. A city model based on rights Clara Brugada highlighted that the Utopías are comprehensive spaces that seek to combat historical inequalities from the territory by offering free services of culture, sports, health, and care. 'Utopías are seedbeds of peace.'
