Head of Government Clara Brugada announced that the rehabilitation of seven underpasses located on Calzada de Tlalpan will be completed before the start of the FIFA 2026 World Cup, as part of an integral urban improvement strategy. The remaining five are currently undergoing structural reinforcement work and will be intervened once that stage is finished. "As we head to the World Cup, we will restructure, renovate, improve, and carry out work on 12 underpasses," explained Brugada, highlighting that they started with the areas in the worst condition. Regarding the businesses installed in these spaces, the head of the local executive assured they will not be removed but will be reorganized. This process is being carried out in coordination with Metropolitan Services (Servimet), which has maintained dialogue with the tenants. Additionally, the Social Development Fund (Fondeso) has allocated resources to support merchants during the transition. Clara Brugada emphasized that the goal is to improve their conditions and offer them new economic opportunities, even with a gastronomic and cultural focus to strengthen the area's activity. The rehabilitation of the underpasses aims to improve mobility on Calzada de Tlalpan, facilitating transit between the east and west as an alternative to the Metro. These spaces will also be transformed under a model similar to the "UtopĂas," with renewed infrastructure, services, and permanent surveillance.
