Arrest of 'Cabrera Sarabia' Cartel Members in Mexico City

Mexican federal forces arrested three members of the 'Cabrera Sarabia' criminal group, allies of 'Los Mayitos' within the Sinaloa Cartel. The arrest took place in the capital, where they were attempting to sell 59 kg of methamphetamine. This is the first instance of this faction's direct presence in Mexico City.

The Security Cabinet confirmed the arrest. Allies of 'Los Mayitos' were caught in possession of 59 kilograms of methamphetamine, which they intended to sell in the country's capital. The 'Cabrera Sarabia' is a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel with a presence in Durango, Sinaloa, and Chihuahua, mainly in the so-called 'Golden Triangle' of those federal entities. After the split between 'Mayos' and 'Chapitos', they sided with the former, leading to their expansion into Sonora and Baja California to join the cartel's internal war. Their main leaders are the brothers José Luis and Alejandro Cabrera Sarabia, who have been sanctioned by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and against whom there are arrest warrants in both Mexico and the United States. This is the first time this criminal group has attempted to operate directly in Mexico City, as previously they did so through intermediaries from the Sinaloa Cartel. Arrest in GAM According to the official report, surveillance of members of 'Los Cabrera Sarabia' revealed that this criminal group intended to market synthetic drugs made in northern Mexico on the streets of the capital, so an operation was set up to detain their couriers. Thus, the criminal cell was detected while moving near a shopping center located in the Guadalupe Tepeyac neighborhood, in the Gustavo A. Madero mayor's office, where they were finally captured in possession of 50 kilograms of methamphetamine and a vehicle related to the incident. The three detainees were handed over to the Attorney General's Office to determine their legal status and continue with the case's investigations. Three alleged members of the 'Cabrera Sarabia' criminal group, allies of 'Los Mayos' within the Sinaloa Cartel, were arrested by federal forces in Mexico City. They were identified as: Alberto Isaac Carbajal Velázquez, Manuel Cárdenas Armentia, and Hugo Avilés Páez. The operation involved elements from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the FGR itself, the Secretariats of National Defense (Sedena) and the Navy of Mexico (Semar), and the Citizen Security Secretariat of Mexico City.
