Uber Deploys Legal Support for Drivers at Mexico City Airport

Uber has deployed legal support for drivers in Mexico City. Over the last month, the National Guard has increased detentions of app-based drivers at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM), imposing fines exceeding 59,000 pesos, as well as towing and impound fees totaling another 21,000 pesos, according to testimonies. Uber advised its drivers: "We know these moments can create uncertainty. If someone cannot verify their identity, do not accept help or share information." The company stated that since the authorities are reportedly not respecting a legal injunction, it has placed legal counsel on-site. Uber detailed that the only authorized firm in Mexico City is GLZ Abogados. The team will be identified with official badges. As of March 30, GLZ Abogados has been providing free legal advice to drivers due to an increase in detentions by the National Guard, which is allegedly violating an injunction in Uber's favor that allows drivers to pick up and drop off passengers at AICM's two terminals. Uber informed drivers that a legal team has been stationed at AICM since March 30 to assist with 'unexpected situations'.
