Mexico City Prosecutor's Office Reports Progress in AXE Ceremonia Case Investigation

The head of the Prosecutor's General Office of Justice (FGJCDMX), Bertha Alcalde Luján, reported key advances in the investigation of the AXE Ceremonia case, in which two photojournalists died, by stating that an initial hearing has already been requested to charge various individuals and legal entities. According to the prosecutor, the investigation has made it possible to identify possible responsibilities at different levels, including the company in charge of supervising the civil protection plan, the company that developed said plan, and the person directly responsible for its review. The company that organized the festival, as well as the one that hired and installed the crane involved in the incident, are also under investigation.

Companies under scrutiny for alleged failures The prosecutor detailed that there are "different types of responsibilities," so the Public Ministry has attempted to formulate charges in an initial hearing against the probable suspects. However, the process has faced delays. As explained by Bertha Alcalde Luján, the legal counsel for one of the victims has repeatedly requested the postponement of the hearing, arguing that they are reviewing the case and exploring mediation mechanisms.

Victims seek justice and possible agreements The prosecutor specified that, within the legal framework, avenues such as a reparatory agreement, contemplated in cases of negligent homicide, have been offered. Nevertheless, she acknowledged that there is dissatisfaction on the part of one of the victims, who have even filed a complaint against legal advisors, considering that it is delaying access to justice.

Prosecutor's Office assures it has elements to proceed Despite the obstacles, the Prosecutor's General Office of Justice of Mexico City emphasized that it has the necessary elements to continue with the criminal process and to seek the linkage to process of the presumed responsible parties. Likewise, she stressed that the victims' will regarding how they want the conflict to be resolved will be respected, whether through a trial or alternative mechanisms.
