PRD Registration in Mexico City Approved

The Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM) approved the registration of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) as a local political party, effective from November 1st. This decision was made after the disappearance of the PRD at the national level, although in Mexico City it achieved 3 percent in the Head of Government election and local congress deputy elections.

The PRD expressed its intention to become a local political party on September 20th through a request submitted to the IECM. In the Mexico City elections on July 2nd, the PRD obtained 3.04 percent of the votes for the Head of Government, 3.73 percent for relative majority deputies, and 4.05 percent for mayors.

The IECM detailed that the party must make modifications to its Declaration of Principles and Bylaws and issue the internal regulations and guidelines provided in its statutory norms within a period of 60 business days after its registration. If it fails to do so, its registration will cease to have effect.

Additionally, it is expected that within 10 calendar days, the corresponding documentation will be sent to the INE to upload the roster of affiliated persons in Mexico City to the Verification System of the Roster of Persons Affiliated with Political Parties. The IECM called for the immediate publication of the resolution in the Official Gazette of Mexico City.
