The Citizen Judicial Council (CJC) met at the Congress of Mexico City to approve the call for selection of the shortlist of candidates who will compete for the position of Attorney General of Justice of Mexico City (FGJCDMX). This election becomes necessary after Ernestina Godoy was not ratified at the beginning of the current year, leaving her position to Ulises Lara, who held the role of interim head.

Various institutions such as universities, bars and law schools, academic, civil, business and union organizations, as well as the general citizenry meeting the established requirements, will be able to participate in this selection process. This group will be able to propose suitable candidates for the CJC to recommend to the head of Government the shortlist according to the published bases.

Jorge Nader Kuri, president of the CJC, detailed that the candidates must be Mexican citizens over 35 years old, hold a law degree and professional ID, have at least five years of experience, no criminal record for serious crimes, submit trust evaluations, asset declarations, and not have held an elected political office or led a political party in the last year.

The new prosecutor of Mexico City is required to be an upright person, with knowledge and experience in law and justice, administrative management and institutional direction skills, as well as being independent in their work, focused on respect and protection of human rights, victim attention, and gender perspective.

The established bases outline the key dates of the selection process, ranging from the registration of applicants from October 24 to November 9, followed by the review of files and publication of the eligible list on November 13. The process will include citizen participation, public hearings, interviews with candidates, trust exams by the National Guard, leading up to the publication of the shortlist on December 2, 2024.

In the CJC session, the creation of a working committee with council members was also approved to receive advice on the management of information subject to personal data protection regulations, thus ensuring that the selection process takes place in accordance with current regulations.
