The Institutional Strengthening Coordinator of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), Ricardo Márquez Blas, has been linked to the process by a control judge after the Public Ministry of the Attorney General's Office (FGJ) of Mexico City presented evidence pointing to the crime of sexual abuse. The event took place in the SCJN offices in the Historic Center of Mexico City last August, when a subordinate of Márquez Blas reported having been subjected to non-consensual touching.
The Sex Crimes Investigation Prosecutor's Office of the General Coordination of Gender Crimes Investigation was responsible for gathering the evidence that supported the accusation. After a hearing to comply with the arrest warrant, the control judge decided to issue an order linking him to the process for the possible crime and confirmed the precautionary measure of preventive detention imposed from the beginning of the process, establishing a period of 30 days for the closure of the supplementary investigation.
The defense of the court official requested the duplication of the constitutional term and presented testimonies; however, it did not succeed in disproving the accusation or obtaining a modification of the precautionary measure of preventive detention in the Eastern Male Preventive Prison of Mexico City.
Ricardo Márquez's detention took place just steps from the building that houses the SCJN, specifically on Pino Suárez Street, at the intersection with Uruguay Republic, shortly after 6 PM on October 22. In light of this situation, the Court issued a statement reaffirming its commitment not to tolerate behaviors that affect the integrity of women and indicated that the official is under internal investigation by the General Unit of Administrative Responsibility Investigation.
The Supreme Court emphasized its strong commitment to defending women's rights and fighting against gender violence, maintaining the principle of presumption of innocence until proven otherwise.
