Senator Cynthia López Castro resigned from the PRI after 21 years of membership due to irreconcilable differences with Alejandro Moreno, the national president of the party.
In a last-minute press conference, López Castro denounced a campaign of political lynching on social media after not voting against an initiative on reforms to the Political Constitution. She expressed her rejection of the political violence exerted against her and stated: "I will not allow political lynching."
The senator mentioned that her resignation from the PRI is because she no longer feels comfortable in the party, equating the situation with a deteriorated relationship that necessitates withdrawing. She thanked the party for the opportunities it provided her and expressed her respect for Alejandro Moreno, wishing him success in the future.
For the moment, Cynthia López Castro will remain as a senator without political affiliation and lamented not finding in the current PRI the same party she had fought for so many years. She concluded her statement by expressing that "that PRI, for which I have fought for so many years, no longer exists."
