In the midst of the legal disputes generated by the reform project approved by the 4T, the Head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, strongly criticized the project presented by Supreme Court Justice Juan Luis González Alcántara Carranca. Brugada stated that the minister is overstepping and proceeding down an illegal path, while urging Norma Piña to be concerned about the situation.
"Norma Piña should be worried about the ministers advancing towards an illegal path," Brugada pointed out. Ortiz Mena was the first to submit a resignation in the Court after the presentation of the project by González Carranca.
Brugada joined the criticisms made by Ricardo Monreal, calling the minister's initiative a "barbarity." The project proposed by González Carranca aims to declare the popular election of judges and magistrates as "unconstitutional," while maintaining citizen voting for the positions of the Supreme Court and the Electoral Tribunal.
In a press conference, Brugada expressed that "the Supreme Court cannot move towards a theme of authoritarianism" and accused González Carranca's project of trying to nullify the Constitution. The Head of Government considered that the minister is overstepping and proceeding down an illegal path, seeking to secure a victory for the Judiciary to maintain its structural immobility while supporting the 4T in relation to the highest judicial body in the country.
"I hope that this perspective is not pursued," concluded Brugada.
