Tensions are rising in the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit due to rumors of a possible resignation of Rogelio Ramírez de la O. According to close sources, the current secretary will leave his position after delivering the budget package, scheduled for next Friday, November 15.
It is speculated that Ramírez de la O had requested to appoint twenty people in the Government, but with the intention of resigning in March, which seems unlikely. Instead, it is proposed that Luz Elena González, the current Secretary of Economy, would take his position. Although it is expected that the secretary will deliver a package with a deficit close to 4%, which would be well regarded by credit rating agencies, he faced discrepancies regarding constitutional changes and uncertainty in the markets following Donald Trump's victory in the U.S.
Ramírez de la O advocated for President Claudia Sheinbaum to comply with a court ruling that was expected to overturn a reform. However, his recommendations were largely ignored, and the legal outcome was not as expected. Furthermore, it is mentioned that the secretary rarely appears at Palacio Nacional and supervises the preparation of the budget package from a distance.
It is noted that the tensions in the Ministry of Finance are related to the reform of the Judiciary, where there is not as consolidated a dialogue as that with other advisors. The lack of participation of Ramírez de la O in key events, such as the G-20 meeting in Brazil, and his limited influence to place personnel in strategic positions also point toward his possible resignation from the post.
