Concachampions Cup Final Confirmed

The final of the Concachampions Cup between Cruz Azul and Vancouver Whitecaps will be held at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario, confirmed Concacaf after several days of uncertainty. The match will take place next Sunday, June 1 at 19:00 hours (Central Mexico time).

The decision to play at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario is due to Cruz Azul accumulating more points (12) than the Canadian team (10) from the Round of 16. Cruz Azul has made this stadium its official venue in the tournament, which is why it will host a title match once again in the continental event.

Cruz Azul reached this stage after defeating Seattle Sounders, América, and Tigres, while Vancouver did the same with Rayados, Pumas, and Inter Miami. Whitecaps will play in this stage for the first time in its history and will be the third team from Canada to compete for the regional trophy.

In the 2013-2014 season, Cruz Azul defeated Toluca to lift its sixth Concachampions title. This match generates expectations among Mexican fans, as a victory would allow Cruz Azul to equal América in Concacaf championships and lift a title before Pumas, just six months after their establishment in Ciudad Universitaria. The matchup has sparked mockery and criticism towards the university team, given the possibility that their archrival could be crowned at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario.
