Mexico President to Meet with FIFA Head for 2026 World Cup Talks

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, confirmed this Thursday the upcoming visit of FIFA President Gianni Infantino to Mexico, where they will hold a meeting at the National Palace to discuss preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The meeting will take place next Monday, March 30, and the topics to be discussed will have a sports focus, given the progress made towards the tournament. In her morning conference this Thursday, Sheinbaum confirmed that Infantino will come to Mexico City to meet with her at the seat of the Federal Executive, the National Palace, one of the most representative government spaces in Mexico. The meeting, which already has a set date for next Monday, aims to advance the dialogue on the organization and key aspects of the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in Mexico, the United States, and Canada. Although there are still details to be finalized regarding the specific agenda of the meeting, it is expected that the dialogue will address logistical, infrastructure, security, and coordination issues between Mexican authorities and FIFA representatives. Despite these preparations having been the subject of previous dialogue between both parties, Infantino's in-person visit underscores the importance of maintaining close communication to ensure all details are ready before the World Cup begins. The meeting at the National Palace could also solidify commitments between the Sheinbaum administration and FIFA to ensure Mexico meets the organizational and logistical expectations of one of the world's largest sporting events.
